Step 1 - Intro Call

We start with a 15-minute introductory phone call to help us both make sure that our expertise matches your situation.








If we aren't the right fit for you, we will happily point you in the right direction to get the advice you need.

Step 2 – First Office or Virtual Meeting (your choice)

Like in medicine, prescription before evaluation and diagnosis is malpractice.

The goal of this meeting is to get crystal clear on your goals, concerns and unique financial situation.

We will take your answers to our questions, along with the data in the documents you provide us, to drive our analysis.  This will result in plain-English answers  to the critical retirement questions

Step 3 - Analysis & Second Meeting 

Here we apply our expertise to answer your critical retirement questions, such as

  • Can I afford to retire?
  • Am I paying too much tax?
  • Can I eliminate or reduce any threats to my retirement?
  • Can my portfolio be improved?

In this meeting we will review the answers to your critical retirement questions and give you actionable advice explaining exactly what you can do to achieve your financial goals.

At the end of this meeting we will ask if you would like to work with our firm or if you would like to SLEEP ON IT.


Step 4 - Sleep On It

Having been in business many years, we are in no rush for you to make a decision. We are interested in creating long-term relationships and want to make sure you are comfortable every step of the way. Prior to deciding whether we should work together, you will want to consider the following:

  • Do I like/trust/respect the team at Matthews + Associates?
  • Will the benefits they provide exceed their cost?
  • Do I understand and agree with their investment philosophy?
  • Do their recommendations make sense to me?

If you decide that we aren't a good fit to work together, we will wish you all the best.  There will never be a hard-sell or pressure to say yes.

Step 5 - Get Started!

At this point, all of your questions have been answered and you will have received an outline of the process moving forward.  We will meet to formalize our relationship and sign the paperwork, making sure there are no loose ends along the way.

Growing up in a small town with a very supportive family, close relationships have always been important to Joe. This is something that easily translates to the way he does business. Joe focuses on building strong relationships with his clients. Joe went to University in Buffalo, where he played on the varsity hockey team and studied Business Administration. This taught him the importance of both hard work and team work. Both of which have become an important aspect of the way we run our business, recognizing that it takes a team to deliver the best client service experience.

Aside from hockey, Joe enjoys being active in the community and playing sports, especially golf and baseball. He also enjoys coaching and helping out with minor hockey, spending time with friends and family and doing as much travelling as possible with his wife Ashley and two sons Louis & Harry.

Joe is passionate about his career in the Financial Planning business. Joe started working in his dad’s office in 2010, he obtained his Life Insurance and Mutual Funds licences in 2011 and has since achieved his CFP (Certified Financial Planner, professional) and CHS (Certified Health Specialist) designations. Both of which have helped in to gain an advanced knowledge in Financial Planning for his clients. Like in sports, where the best teams have the best defence, Joe believes the best financial plans build a solid financial defence.

Joe loves his career because he is always meeting new people and able to continually challenge himself while making a positive difference in the lives of others.  It is his mission to help people achieve True Wealth, which he believes is a combination of financial freedom, time doing the things you love, time with the people you love and the ability to create opportunities for the ones closest to you.

Bev grew up in Durham region but has called Peterborough her home for the past twenty years.  Educated at Trent University, receiving an Honours Degree in Biochemistry, has afforded her the luxury of falling in love with the city of Peterborough and surrounding communities.

Core values of a strong work ethic and the respect of others were instilled in Bev at a very young age and she continues to demonstrate them throughout her adult life.  Team sports were part of Bev’s upbringing and she continues to enjoy all outdoor activities.   You can very often find her cheering and encouraging her son playing many organized sports.  Bev enjoys spending time with her husband Anthony, their son Dominic and her two Bernese Mountain Dogs.   

Bev has worked in many different vocations including laboratory and industrial maintenance.  Attention to detail and meticulous results has enabled her to excel within her role with Matthews + Associates.

She is excited to share her skills and caring attitude with everyone she comes into contact with.   Bev always looks forward to helping clients embark on their journey , transitioning from the working world to a well deserved, comfortable and secure retirement.

Mary joined Matthews + Associates in September 2004 after 14 years in the Financial Services industry in Toronto.

Mary keeps the office running in the background.  She is responsible for many task including, payroll, accounting,  compliance, technology and new staff training, among many other tasks.  When no one in the office knows the answer, we always turn to Mary. 

When Mary isn't working, she loves to spend time at her family cottage on Chandos Lake, outside of Apsley, ON.

Karen joined Matthews & Associates Insurance & Investment Services Ltd. in 1996. Karen is the first person our clients talk to when they have questions or concerns.  When there is something she can't handle she will send you in the right direction.  She also manages all scheduling and the day to day operations of our insurance business. 

She spent the first part of her career working for Granada Canada managing client accounts and then moved to the “Office of the Employer Advisor” with the ministry of labour.

Karen was raised in Peterborough and attended Trent University and Sir Sandford Fleming College. She is an avid crafter, hockey/lacrosse fan and former horse racing owner. When not at work, she can be found in her garden, crafting new ideas, reading or knitting for children’s hospital.
