Your Dream Retirement is Within Reach

Imagine waking up every morning in retirement knowing:

  • You have the freedom to enjoy the things you love.
  • You’re financially secure and prepared for life’s twists and turns.
  • You’ve made thoughtful decisions that align with your goals and values.

This isn’t just about numbers on a page—it’s about creating a retirement that allows you to truly live the life you’ve worked so hard for.

The good news?
You don’t have to figure it out alone.

With Your True Wealth Roadmap, we’ll guide you toward the clarity and confidence you need to make your dream retirement a reality.

Simple 2-Step Process

1

Introductory Call

What It Is:

A brief 15‑minute call where we:

  1. Learn about your retirement goals and current situation
  2. Explain how the Retirement Plan Review (our Strategy Session) works
  3. Confirm that our process – and the $400 + HST Review – is a good use of your time and money

If it’s a fit, we’ll reserve a time for your Retirement Plan Review at the end of this call.

Why It Works:

This step lets both of us make sure there’s a strong match before anyone invests more time or money. You can ask questions, understand how we work, and see whether our Retirement Plan Review is the right next step.

It is not a sales call and there is no pressure. It’s simply an introductory conversation so we can focus our detailed work on people and situations we’re genuinely equipped to help.

2

Retirement Plan Review (our Strategy Session)

What It Is:

This is a focused, 60‑minute working meeting where we use your actual numbers to stress‑test your retirement picture. We clarify your goals, walk through your current income, tax, and investment setup, and then pinpoint the 2–3 biggest opportunities or risks we see in your plan.

By the end, you’ll know what’s working, what needs attention, and what we’d do next if we were in your shoes. The fee for the Retirement Plan Review is $400 + HST, but you only pay it if you feel the insight and clarity you received were worth far more than the cost.

Why It Works:

Most “free consultations” stay vague and end in a product recommendation. In the Retirement Plan Review, we roll up our sleeves and actually analyze your situation. You get clear, prioritized recommendations and a view of what’s at stake if you ignore the issues we’ve identified. We get to demonstrate how we think and how we work with real numbers, not hypotheticals.

Because there’s a fee (with a pay‑if‑value guarantee), people who book this meeting are serious about their retirement, which means you get more value from the conversation and we can focus our time on clients we’re genuinely equipped to help.

What Might Be Holding You Back

Let's Address It.

“I’m not sure I have ‘enough’ to work with you.”

Many people worry they haven’t saved “enough” or that their situation is too simple or too messy.

We typically work with households who are within about 5 years of retirement (or already retired) and have $750,000+ in investable assets. If that sounds like you, there’s a good chance we can help.

If we’re not the right fit, we’ll tell you that honestly and do our best to point you toward other resources.

“I don’t want to get stuck in a sales pitch.”

We hear this a lot, especially from people who’ve been through “free consultations” that turned into product presentations.

That’s not what we do.

  • The Intro Call is a short, 15‑minute fit check.
  • The Retirement Plan Review (Strategy Session) is a 60‑minute working meeting where we highlight the 2–3 biggest opportunities or risks we see and outline what we’d do next.

At the end of the Review, you decide whether to engage us for a comprehensive plan, ongoing planning and investment management, or to implement on your own. There’s no hard close.

“I’m embarrassed about the gaps or paperwork.”

It’s common to feel behind, disorganized, or unsure if you’ve made the “right” moves so far.

You’re not alone – and you’re exactly who this process is designed for.

Our job isn’t to judge what you’ve done. Our job is to meet you where you are, make sense of the moving parts, and help you make better decisions going forward. We’ll tell you what information we actually need and make it as simple as possible to share it.

“Is this really the right time?”

Retirement decisions often feel like something you’ll look at “next year” – until suddenly you’re there.

The reality is: the best time to get clarity is before you file your next tax return, take CPP/OAS, or start drawing heavily from your nest egg.

The 15‑minute Intro Call is a low‑risk way to find out whether now is the right time for a deeper Review. If it’s not, we’ll say so.

What You'll Walk Away With

Clarity:

A clear picture of where you stand today and how all the moving parts fit together: your savings, income sources (CPP/OAS, pensions, RRIFs, TFSAs, non‑registered), spending, and key risks. You’ll know exactly what’s working and what needs attention.

Confidence:

You’ll leave with the top 2–3 priorities in your situation, in order, and a simple plan for what to do next. No more guessing or second‑guessing. You’ll understand why we’re recommending certain steps, not just what they are.

Peace of Mind:

You’ll know you’ve had a professional stress‑test your retirement income and tax strategy, and you’ll have a path forward – whether you choose a flat‑fee comprehensive plan, ongoing planning and investment management, or to implement on your own.

Why Choose Us?

Retirement Specialists for Canadians 50+:

We don’t try to be everything to everyone. We focus on Canadians who are nearing or in retirement, usually with $750,000–$5,000,000+ saved. That means our Retirement Plan Review and ongoing advice are built around questions like CPP/OAS timing, RRIF withdrawals, taxes, and making your money last – not generic accumulation advice.

Advice‑First, Evidence‑Based Planning:

We start with your goals and your numbers, not a product. In the Retirement Plan Review, we use straightforward tools and an evidence‑based approach to show you what’s working, where the real risks are, and what we’d do next if we were in your shoes. Any recommendations that follow are rooted in your plan, not in a sales quota.

A Proactive Team for the Long Term:

If you choose to keep working together after the Review, you get a team that knows your situation and a clear service calendar – tax packages, income projections, review meetings, and ongoing adjustments as life and markets change. You’re not just getting a one‑time report; you’re getting a structured process and a partner to walk through retirement with you.

What Our Clients Are Saying

Frequently Asked Questions

Let's Address It.

"How are you different from other financial advisors?"

At Matthews + Associates, we specialize in simplifying the complexities of retirement planning and aligning your financial strategy with what truly matters to you. We focus on Canadians age 50+ who are nearing or in retirement, and we build plans that integrate income, tax, investments, estate, and risk – not just “pick some funds.”

Our approach is:

  • Retirement‑focused: This is all we do, so our advice is tailored to your stage of life, not a generic, one‑size‑fits‑all solution.
  • Advice‑first, not product‑first: We lead with planning and education. Recommendations come from your goals and numbers, not from a product shelf.
  • Process‑driven: You start with a 15‑minute Intro Call and a 60‑minute Retirement Plan Review (our Strategy Session), then decide how you want to work with us – there’s no “mystery box” or surprise sales pitch at the end.

Our goal is simple: clarity, confidence, and peace of mind about your retirement decisions.

"Do I have enough money to become a client?"

We work with people from all walks of life, but to deliver the level of service and depth of planning we’re known for, we focus on households who are the best fit for our process.

Typically, that means:

  • Individuals or couples within about 5 years of retirement or already retired
  • With at least $750,000 in investable assets (RRSPs, TFSAs, non‑registered, corporate, etc.), and often $1–5 million+
  • Or business owners planning a transition or exit

You’ve done a good job saving or building wealth, and now you want to turn it into a reliable retirement paycheque and make smart tax and estate decisions.

If we’re not the right fit, we’ll still do our best to point you toward helpful resources or other professionals. If you’re unsure, the 15‑minute Intro Call is a simple way to find out.

"What can I expect if we work together?"

You can expect a clear, step‑by‑step process:

  1. 15‑Minute Intro Call
We learn about your situation, you learn how we work, and we confirm that a Retirement Plan Review is a good use of your time and money.

  2. 60‑Minute Retirement Plan Review (our Strategy Session)
We clarify your goals, highlight the 2–3 biggest opportunities or risks we see around income, tax, and risk, and outline what we’d do next if we were in your shoes.

  3. Ongoing partnership (if you choose to move forward)
From there, you can engage us for a comprehensive flat‑fee plan, or for ongoing planning and investment management. In both cases, you get a proactive service calendar, regular reviews, and a team that knows your situation in detail.

Throughout, our focus is on clarity, simplicity, and confidence – so you understand the “why” behind every recommendation and feel supported as your life and markets change.

“Why should I consider hiring Matthews + Associates?”

If you’re approaching or in retirement, you’re making a series of decisions you don’t get to redo: when to retire, how much to spend, how to draw income tax‑efficiently, what to do about CPP/OAS, how to protect a spouse, and how to leave things clean for your family.

We help you:

  • Turn your savings into a coordinated income and tax plan
  • Reduce guesswork around big decisions like CPP/OAS timing and withdrawal strategies
  • Build a straightforward investment approach that supports your plan
  • Stay on track with a clear service calendar and review schedule

With a proven process, deep retirement experience, and an advice‑first mindset, our job is to help you make these decisions with eyes open and a plan you understand.

“What happens after the Strategy Session?”

At the end of your Retirement Plan Review (Strategy Session), we’ll summarize:

  • What’s working
  • The 2–3 biggest opportunities or risks we see
  • What we’d do next if we were in your position

Then we’ll talk through your options. Typically, one of three things happens:

  1. Flat‑fee comprehensive plan
You engage us to build a full retirement plan – income, tax, investment, estate and risk – and you can choose to implement it yourself or with our help.

  2. Ongoing planning & investment management
You prefer a long‑term partner to both build the plan and handle implementation and ongoing adjustments.

  3. You implement on your own
You take the insight and recommendations from the Review and decide to manage things yourself.

If you’d like time to think it over, we’ll book a short follow‑up so you can ask any remaining questions and make a clear yes/no decision. There’s never a hard close – just honest recommendations and a clear next step if you want our help.

"Is there a cost for the Introductory Call or Strategy Session?"

The 15‑minute Introductory Call is complimentary. It’s simply a chance to see if we’re a good fit and whether a Retirement Plan Review makes sense for you.

The Retirement Plan Review (Strategy Session) is a paid, 60‑minute working meeting. The fee is $400 + HST, but:

  • You only pay after the session is complete,
  • And only if you feel the clarity and insight you received were worth far more than the cost.

If you decide to move ahead with a comprehensive plan or ongoing planning after the Review, we’ll credit the Strategy Session fee toward your planning engagement.

We structure it this way so you can experience how we think and how we work before committing to anything longer‑term.

Where To Start

If you’re close to retirement (or already there) and want a clear, coordinated plan for your income, taxes, and investments, the best place to start is a short Introductory Call.

On this 15‑minute call, we’ll:
• Learn a bit about your situation and goals
• Explain how our Retirement Plan Review (Strategy Session) works
• Confirm whether it’s a good use of your time and the $400 + HST fee

If it’s a fit, we’ll book your 60‑minute Retirement Plan Review at the end of the call. If not, we’ll do our best to point you in a helpful direction.
